Lake Louise winter wedding | Winter elopement ideas | Film & Forest Banff wedding photography
Nothing is more Canadian than a Lake Louise winter wedding! Ryan and Rachel’s first trip to the Canadian Rockies was a winter wonderland.
Lake Louise Winter Wedding Ceremony
These two travelled from Texas to experience a true winter wedding in the mountains! Over 30cm of snow fell the night before their Lake Louise winter wedding. It was beautiful, but all the snow led to one major question… where could we hold a ceremony?!
Liam and I arrived early the morning of the wedding with snowshoes in hand to make a personalized ceremony spot just for them! We stomped down a path and a little ceremony spot a few hundred meters on the lake in the snow. This made for the most scenic ceremony spot you could ask for! How’s that for photographer service? 😉 Casey from Urban Officiant did an amazing job as their officiant at our makeshift ceremony spot!

Winter at Bow Lake
After the wedding ceremony with their family, they exchanged vows privately at the much quieter location of Bow Lake. Fierce wind gusts whipped up fresh snow off Bow Lake just as they finished their vows. Within seconds, we were engulfed in a full sheet of white. Luckily the warm car was only meters away, but for one fleeting moment before our camera lenses went white we caught Ryan was holding on tightly to his bride through the gusts. Despite the wind, Rachel’s hair done by Mountain Beauties held in place!
It feels like a lifetime ago since March 2020. A few weeks after Ryan and Rachel’s wedding, countries closed and everyone’s life worldwide was uprooted. Like many couples we had to cancel our own 2020 wedding we had planned, but through patience and dedication we persevered.

Beautiful work! Lake Louise is simply stunning and perfect for an elopement location 😍
You can’t go wrong with Lake Louise in the wintertime!
Holy smokes! This is SO romantic and dreamy in the snowscape. The photos are stunning!
Thanks so much!
HOLY WOW!!! Talk about perfect winter wonderland weather! You captured their day beautifully!
Right?! The blizzard the night before their microwedding was a blessing in disguise.
So well done! It’s great that they had a fresh snow day with a little bit of sunshine. That happens so rarely. I am so impressed you got such amazing photos when they probably didn’t want to spend too much time in the cold!
Haha yes, it was certainly cold! The sun makes such a difference when it’s out in winter.
Talk about a winter wonderland- wow! I am absolutely obsessed with that first image: the snow swirling near the frozen Lake Louise. Glad these two Texans could experience such a beautiful wedding day!
The wind made for some crazy wedding photos that’s for sure!
Stunning! Absolutely beautiful! What an incredible winter elopement for these two! And how fun – getting to snowshoe a ceremony location for them – love it! Congratulations on the feature also! ❤️❤️
Aw thanks so much! It will make for a fun anecdote in 20 years telling grandchildren about their ceremony spot 😉
Wow! This is absolutely stunning. I don’t know how their hands aren’t freezing off, but the images are incredible! I love winter weddings for couples like this who are brave enough to have them!
Haha Canada certainly adds an extra element in the winter! All about working fast to get the shot during cold temps.
Wow! Banff is definitely on my bucket list. You captured this day so beautifully and I just love this location.
Lake Louise is not to be missed!
