These Emerald Lake elopement photos in Yoho National Park will convince you to elope in the rugged Canadian Rockies ASAP!
Eloping Somewhere New
Chelsea and Sarah had to cancel their destination wedding in Hawaii because of COVID-19, but they wanted to keep a sense of travel and adventure in their elopement. Instead of sandy beaches, they decided to elope just a couple hours from Calgary (where they call home) in Yoho National Park.
Their Emerald Lake elopement photos still held that sense of excitement and exploring somewhere new because they had never visited this part of the Canadian Rockies before!
Takakkaw Falls Wedding Ceremony
The marriage commissioner Hans Lestra told us this was only his third time doing a Takakkaw Falls wedding ever in all of his 30 years of officiating ceremonies in Yoho National Park! Sarah and Chelsea exchanged handwritten vows and handfasted in their elopement ceremony as part of Sarah’s Irish heritage.

Adventure Elopement Style
Sarah had chosen her L’amour by Calla Blanche wedding dress with a long train with white sand beaches in mind, but Takakkaw Falls made for the perfect plan B! Chelsea found her intricately-beaded dress at Everthine Bridal Consignment Boutique, and with her loose wavy bun she channelled vintage flapper vibes. One of Sarah’s rings was repurposed from an antique Victorian brooch, and Golden Floral Co. beautifully split one bouquet into two matching arrangements for them.
Emerald Lake Elopement Photos at Sunset
We hiked along the shoreline for their Emerald Lake elopement photos after leaving Takakkaw falls and driving through a passing rain storm. Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park may be world famous for its turquoise waters and prehistoric fossil beds, but it was still new and unique for Sarah and Chelsea!
One of our favourite things as adventure elopement photographers is showing couples just how beautiful the Canadian Rockies really are. In a world of COVID, these two were still able to find an adventure of a lifetime right in their own backyard.
