Can you imagine spending three days at a remote backcountry lodge with Mount Assiniboine elopement photographers for your wedding plans? These two did, and it was an adventure of a lifetime!
Mount Assiniboine Elopement Photographers in the Backcountry
For their elopement, Kristin and Justin planned three days at Assiniboine Lodge, a remote backcountry lodge deep in the Canadian Rockies. To start their adventure elopement, we all hitched a ride with Alpine Helicopters to the base of Mt. Assiniboine. This was Kristin’s first heli flight, and the views of Spray Reservoir and the snow-capped peaks made it all the more memorable. We have taken a few heli trips before (including this helicopter elopement in Banff!) but the feeling of flying over the Canadian Rockies never gets old as Mount Assiniboine elopement photographers.
Unpredictable Weather on a Mount Assiniboine Elopement
Classic Rockies weather, the mountains were completely socked in when we landed and Mt. Assiniboine was nowhere in sight. Having planned and researched conditions as adventure wedding photographers though, we knew there was going to be a break in the clouds and decided that sunset that evening would be perfect for their Mount Assiniboine elopement. Kristin’s bouquet by Willow Flower Co. in Canmore also held up well in the mountain weather!
We settled into the cozy lodge and Kristin and Justin got ready. Justin watched on as Kristin put on her makeup, and being able to get ready together was a treat that couples often don’t experience on traditional wedding days.
Hiking Up for Their Mt. Assiniboine Elopement
With beers in tow and spirits high, we set out to hike a stunning viewpoint overlooking Mt. Assiniboine, Sunburst Peak, and Cerulean lake for their adventure elopement. Taking a helicopter flight to the base of Assiniboine Lodge meant we cut out the 20km+ hike in to the provincial park, while still giving us all energy for the hike to their elopement location at sunset. This viewpoint is known for its stunning sunsets, and as Mount Assiniboine elopement photographers we knew it would be the perfect place for Kristin and Justin!

An Epic First Look
When we got to the top Kristin changed into her wedding dress for their first look. There was not a sound or soul in sight as she walked down the viewpoint to meet Justin. She instantly took his breath away when he saw her. We help create first look moments for all of the couples who choose us as their Mount Assiniboine elopement photographers, but Justin’s reaction to Kristin in her wedding dress was truly priceless!
The clouds had lifted and peace filled the mountain air. As they looked out together across the snow-capped peaks, we couldn’t help but feel overwhelming love and joy. All of the logistics and hard work that went into planning was all worth it to be here for Kristin and Justin’s Mount Assiniboine elopement, experiencing this place that we had so long dreamed of with these two. There are truly no words to describe this moment.
After sunset, we hiked back down to enjoy a candlelit dinner and a bottle of champagne at Assiniboine Lodge. The staff were so accommodating and the food was so delicious, it was hard to believe we were deep in the backcountry miles away from the nearest town!
Sunrise at Magog Lake
The next morning, we woke up early for sunrise and hiked to Magog Lake. Kristin and Justin had brought an elopement announcement sign with them, and it was the perfect addition for Mount Assiniboine elopement photographers to capture! We love when couples incorporate details like this into their adventure of a lifetime, because not only does it make a good photo prop, but it also makes a special keepsake afterwards too!
After an epic sunrise, Kristin and Justin packed the wedding clothes away to enjoy the landscape and trails Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park has to offer. We spent the day together hiking, laughing, and of course drinking beer! Being able to spend time with Kristin and Justin and getting to know them was one of our favourite parts of being Mount Assiniboine elopement photographers.
Morning Fish
It was time to pack up and head out the next day, and not a moment too soon. A storm was rolling in and heavy rain and snow was in the forecast. Kristin and Justin spent the morning fishing (unfortunately with no luck!) before leaving this beautiful place. It was the perfect end to their unforgettable adventure of a lifetime.
We won’t soon forget this unbelievable provincial park in BC, and as Mount Assiniboine elopement photographers we hope this inspires your own adventure of a lifetime too.
