Sorry, Alanis Morissette, but this rainy Banff wedding photography proves stormy weather on your wedding day isn’t ironic… it’s amazing! These two and their friends came all the way from Oklahoma City to elope in Banff National Park, and stormy weather wasn’t going to stop them from tying the knot!
Change of Plans for This Rainy Banff Wedding Photography
We had originally planned for their intimate Banff wedding to be at sunrise with Jazmin and Nate at a completely different location in Banff National Park. As Mother Nature would have it, though, the morning was calling for a complete downpour so we changed plans last-minute to an stormy sunset ceremony on the shores of Lake Minnewanka.
The best part about eloping and small destination weddings is the flexibility to change plans on the fly. There, on a stormy day in the mountains, Nate and Jazmin were surrounded by loved ones and were wed by their best friend.
First Look during their Wedding Ceremony
Since there was no traditional ‘aisle’ for their intimate wedding at Lake Minnewanka, Nate faced away as Jazmin walked to the ceremony spot at the lakeshore. When she arrived, she tapped Nate on the shoulder for a true first look. As Nate turned around and saw his bride for the first time, he couldn’t contain himself. “That was worth the wait!”, he professed as everyone laughed and cried tears of joy.

Boho Bride Inspiration
If you’re looking for boho bride inspiration, look no further! Jazmin channeled a bohemian goddess in her Rue de Seine boho wedding dress and floral crown interlaced with tiny crystals by Willow Flower Co. in Canmore. Couples always worry about bad weather on their wedding day, but the stormy weather gave that extra oomph factor in this rainy Banff wedding photography. Jazmin’s Rue de Seine dress flowed like magic in the wind!
Finishing Rainy Banff Wedding Photography with a First Dance
Just because you choose to elope or have rainy Banff wedding photography doesn’t mean you have to miss out on traditional aspects like a first dance either! Nate and Jazmin picked out a song before the big day, and we brought our bluetooth speaker to make it happen for them. We scouted out a quiet meadow where they could share their first dance together just the two of them.
After their ceremony and rainy Banff wedding photography finished and all their friends had left, Nate and Jazmin finished their elopement with their first dance together as husband and wife. Just the two of them, surrounded by timeless mountains, stormy skies, and hearts full of love.

We are going to Banff in May and are so excited! This wedding is absolutely epic. You are so talented, heart eyes!
Aw that’s awesome! May is amazing in Banff because it’s still shoulder season before summer and that means less crowds. Definitely recommend renting an e-bike and going to Moraine Lake before it opens if you can and the avalanche risk has passed!
These photos are so beautiful! I think a little rain can add so much to the story and feel of the day. Also…that dress. Wow!
