When the bride told us Tofino wedding photographers that she was planning to surprise the groom with a helicopter tour, we knew it was going to be an incredible day!
Backup Plans for Tofino Wedding Photographers
Like a lot of couples getting married in 2020, Nora and Mat’s Tofino wedding looked completely different than their original plans. But with just a couple months of planning these two were able to celebrate an adventure of a lifetime with their closest families on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada.
Tofino Heli Wedding Surprise
When we arrived at Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park for their first look, my Tofino wedding photography partner Liam climbed up a nearby rock to get a different perspective of the first look. When he got to the top, he saw something we didn’t expect… someone had written ‘Tofino’ in the sand! It added the perfect touch for Mat and Nora’s first look on Long beach!
To give Mat an even bigger surprise during their first look, Nora surprised him with a helicopter tour for his wedding gift! We hopped on to the helicopter with Atleo River Air Service and they flew us up into the remote mountains of Vancouver Island, then to a private beach on a secluded island in the Pacific Ocean. Only in British Columbia can Tofino wedding photographers capture snow-capped peaks and sandy beaches all in one day!

Wedding Reception on the Beach
Back in Tofino, their family joined them for an intimate beach ceremony as the sound of ocean waves crashed against the shore. For their microweding reception dinner, they set up a picnic table using wooden pallets adorned with candlesticks and beautiful floral arrangements from Crab Apple Floral. Mat and Nora brought in Tacofino burritos and Rhino doughnuts for dessert. These two know the way to a Tofino wedding photographer’s heart! The Tacofino food truck and Rhino Coffee House are staples for any visit to Tofino, and this microwedding was no exception!
Being flexible in their plans and keeping the guest count small and casual, Mat and Nora were still able to celebrate on one of Tofino’s many public beaches and soak in all the west coast vibes. Their backup plan became an unforgettable Tofino wedding experience in an unforgettable year.

I’m sure the surprise helicopter tour was an amazing gift that they’ll remember for years to come. What an incredible memory they created. All of the little details you’ve captured in the landscape and the couple are amazing, and they make me pause on each photo.
I can’t believe she was barefoot on that snow!!! These two are definitely adventurous. It looks like they had so much fun adventuring together, with it all topped by an intimate wedding ceremony. I just love everything about this gallery. The colors, the details, the landscape photos, and how well their personalities shined through… I feel like I know them personally. Amazing work!
