Adventure Elopement Photographers at a Hiking Wedding near Invermere

As adventure elopement photographers we were stoked when these two asked us to capture their hiking wedding near Invermere to Lake of the Hanging Glacier! Janai and Brad had done the Lake of the Hanging Glacier hike in Invermere the year before, and knew they wanted to elope here.

These two came from Austin, Texas with their best friend to get married in Invermere. But they didn’t just want any traditional wedding; they wanted to make this trip incredibly special with an adventure elopement hike to Lake of the Hanging Glacier deep in the Purcell mountains!

Lake of the Hanging Glacier Hike

On a sunny August morning we met up with them at Kicking Horse Coffee (our staple Invermere hangout) before hitting the road. Two hours later down a backcountry dirt road and we were there: a tiny trailhead tucked deep in the heart of the Purcells.

The sun was shining and we couldn’t ask for better weather as adventure elopement photographers for the roughly 8km hike in to Lake of the Hanging Glacier. Along the way we passed mossy forests, rushing waterfalls, and meadows covered in alpine flowers. In a few weeks’ time this valley would be frost bitten with the impending autumn weather, but for now it was a lush mountain oasis in late August.

Floral Wedding Dress Inspiration

When we arrived at the shores of the Lake of the Hanging Glacier, Janai and Brad got ready for their adventure elopement and changed into their wedding clothes. Janai wore a summery white floral dress, a perfect untraditional wedding dress that matched the flowers that surrounded us. Adventure wedding photographers love when couples skip tradition and do their wedding experience their way!

Adventure Elopement Ceremony

These two said “I do” along the lakeshore between two larches and the great Jumbo Glacier as a backdrop. We’ve seen some incredible ceremony places as adventure elopement photographers, but this hiking wedding in Invermere may just take the cake.

Afterwards they celebrated with a few celebratory shots and soaked in the scenery. In an effort to get a better view of the lake for hiking wedding photos, we climbed up the mountainside through the larch forest. Alas, the viewpoint escaped us, but that didn’t stop us adventure elopement photographers from taking advantage of the scenic forest that looked like something straight out of a fairytale.

A few more adventure elopement photos later and it was finally time to say goodbye to Lake of the Hanging Glacier and continue on with Janai and Brad’s hiking wedding in Invermere. We all took one last glance at the glacial lake before the hike back out. One thing was for certain: we’d be back here again one day.
