Choosing an Alberta Elopement

Dana and Alex wanted to elope on their own before their wedding back home in Prince George with family and friends. They wanted expansive mountain views to highlight the beauty of Canada, while being able to spend the day with their two dogs Benny and Jett. An Alberta elopement near Canmore was the perfect fit!

Alberta elopement hiking up a mountain

Hiking in Canmore

It was a windy August day, and cold weather is not uncommon for summer in the Canadian Rockies. Together we all hit the trail and hiked up a mountain to this amazing spot overlooking the town of Canmore. It made a gorgeous backdrop to their Alberta elopement photos, even with the wind!

The stylists at The Loft (a local Canmore salon) pinned Dana’s hair in curlers for the hike up, helping to keep the curls bouncy and long hair off her back while we hiked. Read more tips on our blog on how to keep your hair and makeup looking good while hiking for your wedding!

Eloping on a Mountaintop

At the top of the hike Alex and Dana took in their surroundings, enjoyed time with the boys (as they affectionately call their pups 😜), and exchanged handwritten vows. Typical Rockies wind howled on top but it didn’t stop their commitment to each other, as well as Dana’s amazing red hair flowing in the wind.

The sun popped in and out of the clouds as they celebrated with a scenic picnic dinner and their first dance at the top of a mountain. Dana’s bridal bouquet from Willow Flower Co. had fallen out of the backpack and gone missing on the hike up, but we found it on the way down just in time for sunset pictures! What a day to remember for Dana and Alex’s Alberta elopement with their two dogs!
