Destination elopement inspiration | La Ventana, Mexico | Film & Forest adventure wedding photographers
When you think of getting married in Mexico and Cabo wedding photographers you probably think of an all-inclusive resort, but that doesn’t have to be the case!
Cabo Wedding Photographers in La Ventana
Every year Shay and Sandy come down with friends to kite surf at La Ventana in Baja California, Mexico. La Ventana is a kite surfing haven just a few hours’ drive from Cabo San Lucas. This time, they planned to secretly elope! Within a few short weeks they planned their wild destination elopement and invited us as Cabo wedding photographers!
DIY Wedding Dress for Their Destination Elopement
The bride Shay crafted her two-piece wedding dress for their destination elopement herself! She found her wedding skirt at a thrift shop in Vancouver and crafted the top by sewing a satin sash onto a crochet vest. She then tied it into a completely one-of-a-kind wedding top!
She also thrifted a cowboy hat and had it re-shaped into the perfect wide-brimmed desert accessory for her destination elopement. Her bouquet was made using flowers around the villa gardens, and together Shay and Sandy crafted the florals and boutonniere.

The Best Elopement Spot for Cabo Wedding Photographers
We all hopped in ‘Debbie Downwinder’, the affectionately-named pickup truck used for transporting kiters (or in this case the happy eloping couple). One dusty ride later and we were there: their hillside destination elopement ceremony spot overlooking the sea.
With macrame chairs from the villa and their rug from the market, the ceremony decor was complete! Their villa host Ingrid officiated, Shay and Sandy exchanged vows, and their friends gave a heartfelt speech. Everyone cheered as they sealed the deal with a kiss and celebratory mezcal shots.
A Moonlit Dinner Under the Stars
As the sun set in a nearby cacti forest, Shay and Sandy shared a first dance and laughed the whole way through. After finishing photos with us Cabo wedding photographers, we rejoined everyone at the villa. The night was celebrated with margaritas and a moonlit dinner on the beach for their destination elopement.
Their Perfect Destination Elopement
Your wedding day is what you make it, and you can go anywhere for a destination elopement. For Shay and Sandy that was celebrating in their favourite travel spot with their friends and a little kite surfing in between.

Oh my gosh stopppppp. Those images with the giant cacti and the sunset are too much. I love the movement and the light – it’s so dreamy! You captured this whole day beautifully
Cheers!
Ahhh! This looks like it was SUCH a fun day! These pictures are gorgeous!
Thanks!
Ahhh, Baja is my favorite! I love all the images, but especially the one of the dirt being kicked up around them! It looks like everyone had a blast!
It was so much fun to experiment with that! We don’t get the fine loose dust like that here in the Rockies so I knew I wanted to experiment with it!
Cabo is such an amazing designation and I love that they had tacos!!! The bride’s dress is absolutely stunning!!
