Fernie Alpine Ski Resort, Kootenays | British Columbia Wedding | Film and Forest Photography
These two fell in love with the Kootenays years ago, so a Fernie Ski Resort wedding at their favourite apres-ski restaurant, Rusty Edge, was an easy decision.
An Easy Venue Choice
The little town of Fernie has a special place in our hearts, just like it does for Bobbie and Devon. There was no hesitation when it came time for them to decide where to get married. From all their memories at the Fernie Alpine Resort to apres-ski beers, Fernie was the place to say “I do”. Even through a pouring rainstorm and dodging traffic in the middle of downtown main street, these two couldn’t stop smiling during their Fernie Ski Resort wedding at the Rusty Edge.
Rusty Edge Wedding Ceremony
Devon and Bobbie got ready separately at AirBnBs in the Fernie Alpine Ski Resort village. The turquoise earrings Bobbie wore were handcrafted from the Fernie Mountain Market! Once ready, they headed over to their Fernie Ski Resort wedding for their ceremony on the Rusty Edge patio. Fall colours dotted the background during their ceremony, making for a perfect autumn feel.

Downtown Fernie Wedding Photos
The sun kept teasing in and out of the clouds as we headed downtown and along the Elk River for Bobbie and Devon’s wedding photos in Fernie. Within minutes, the downpour started but the bride and groom completely embraced it! These two were so upbeat and fun; it’s capturing love stories like this that make wedding photography a dream job for us.
Rainstorms pass fast in the mountains, and this time was no exception. Bobbie and Devon got the quintessential wedding photo in the middle of downtown Fernie, as their friends (and wedding day chauffeurs 😉 ) cruised down main street in the background. Before heading back to their Fernie Ski Resort wedding, the bride and groom were sure to grab a pint at The Brickhouse and dry off from the thunderstorm.
Fernie Ski Resort Wedding Reception
Pints down and hair dried, Bobbie and Devon headed back to their wedding venue at the Rusty Edge for the reception party. Good food and great speeches filled the night, and there were many hilarious stories shared. Although sunset was cloudy, we took the bride and groom out for a few minutes during their Fernie Alpine Ski Resort wedding to take a break from the reception and grab a couple more photos. As darkness fell and Edison bulbs illuminated the night, you could feel the joy and love radiating out of the Rusty Edge reception.
Devon and Bobbie’s day was a little more intimate than originally planned due to COVID, but as it turns out they wouldn’t have changed a thing. As long as you’re together with your loved ones and marrying your best friend, you won’t regret a thing.

Thanks!
You can feel the emotions not only reading your words, but in the photos, as well. I especially love the high five one!
Cheers
This wedding is soooo beautiful!!! You captured it perfectly and I love that the bride and groom made time for a beer after the downtown photos! Also, that high five photo is everything – love it!!!!
Haha aiming on point
I just adore ski resort weddings! I love that they got a mix of outdoor mountain vibes with downtown fun – such a beautiful day! Gorgeous work!
Agreed, they love the ski resort in Fernie so it was only fitting.
I loved how descriptive you were with not only your words, but your photos as well. I felt like I was reliving the day by just reading it!
Thanks so much!
I am obsessed with this whole post! The landscape, the town, the emotion, the way you captured it, all of it! My favorite photo is the one of her being buttoned into her dress and her reflection in the door. Such a beautifully composed image. SO GOOD!!
Aw thanks, getting ready is always one of our favourite parts of a wedding day.
