Often people think of strenuous grinds when it comes to hiking elopement photographers in Banff National Park, but that doesn’t have to be the case. The best part about Canadian national parks is that there is a trail out there for everyone, and Stephanie and Tommy’s hiking elopement was perfect!
The Perfect Trail for Hiking Elopement Photographers
This trail was on the top of our bucket list for an elopement location for so long, and when Stephanie and Tommy told us they wanted to do it we were beyond stoked!
Both Banff and Jasper National Park are large spread-out areas, but we feel the mountains are at their most grand along the Icefield Parkway. We met them as their hiking elopement photographers in the dark parking lot of the trailhead and hit the trail. There’s still some elevation to this trail, but in the cover of dark we quickly gained the ridge without even noticing how high we had climbed.
Wearing Wedding Clothes for Your Hiking Elopement
How does one wear their wedding clothes with hiking elopement photographers? Well we change at the top of course! Once ready, Stephanie and Tommy shared a first look and exchanged vows surrounded by epic glaciers and weather-worn peaks. Stephanie wore a beautiful cream wedding dress from 1861 Boutique that was perfect for their adventurous hiking elopement.
Don’t forget to look at this ski wedding in Banff too!
An Unforgettable Sunrise
We have seen some incredible sunrises as hiking elopement photographers, but this one will forever be held in our memories. A good 20 minutes after the initial sunrise (when alpenglow happens), the sun broke through faraway clouds and lit up the Athabasca Glacier in hues of gold and cotton-candy pink. We used to capture the initial sunrise and then pack our cameras up when we were landscape photographers, but as hiking elopement photographers we’ve learned to always stay a little longer because you never know what Mother Nature is going to surprise you with.
Red Chairs and Hiking Elopement Signs!
We danced around rocky hillsides and bundled up in our down blanket. Stephanie and Tommy even had a custom-made personalized wooden elopement sign by Blondewood Co. for us hiking elopement photographers to use for their photos in Banff National Park! Along the way back down we stopped at Parks Canada’s signature red chairs (you can find them scattered around every national park of Canada) to soak in one last amazing view of Mt. Athabasca, Andromeda, and Snow Dome. We finished Steph and Tommy’s hiking elopement with celebratory champagne from their home in BC’s Okanagan and a first dance along the Icefield Parkway.
There really is a trail out there for every hiking elopement, and we are so glad we finally got to share this one for their adventure of a lifetime

Their sister made the signs too! So fun 🙂
Those mountains took my breath away! Gosh, I wish Texas had something even remotely this gorgeous.
Also, the shot with the Adirondack chairs and them kissing is my FAVORITE! All of them are good, but that one just makes me really happy.
Aw thanks Beth! Those chairs are scattered across Canada at every scenic point in the national parks. It was fun to tie them into the photos, I hope they keep up the tradition now for every park they visit 🙂
