It may have been -25 °C and a blustering snowstorm, but we couldn’t resist stopping in Kootenay National Park on the Alberta/BC border for some engagement photography location scouting!

Last week we celebrated our 5-year anniversary! To celebrate, we took a ski trip to Kimberley, British Columbia, and on the drive home to Calgary we had to stop for some location scouting in Kootenay National Park. We met at a Halloween party through a university volunteer group, and five years later here we are… falling in love with the outdoors and becoming wedding photography partners in crime.

We joke that every year we’re together, we add a new outdoor activity to our repetoire. Hiking, backcountry trekking, rock climbing, skiing. Liam has started training for his first ultramarathon this year, which is really just a fancy trail race named by people who crazy enough to run 80km uphill for hours on end. Here’s to hoping for my poor little legs that ultramarathons aren’t the next outdoor activity we pick up together!

Kootenay National Park isn’t the only great location for an adventure session in beautiful British Columbia!

Check out this stormy adventure session in Kamloops!

Don’t let the cold scare you; winter in the Canadian Rockies can make for great photos! Normally, Marble Canyon in Kootenay National Park is packed with visitors during the summer and fall months. In winter, there wasn’t a soul around.

We’re big proponents of making your adventure session or elopement your own, so Kootenay National Park in the winter is an amazing location if you love snowshoeing and getting outdoors! Snow is almost guaranteed to fall, so we prefer calling your elopement plans here a snowlopement 😉
