Heli Weddings: Combining Adventure and Tradition

The Canadian Rockies offer a unique way to elope. By taking a helicopter, you can cut out hours of strenuous hiking while still getting adventurous heli wedding photography. A Banff helicopter wedding gives you time to explore, while still having energy to party the night away with your loved ones after. Rachel and Brad did just that!

Banff Helicopter Wedding at Mt. Charles Stewart

They started the morning with a first look and family photos in Canmore, then headed to Alpine Helicopters. We met up with Martha Mccallum of Martha’s Heli Hikes there, and flew to the mountain region of Mt. Charles Stewart. Martha is a ACMG-certified guide AND marriage officiant, making it easy for you to tie the knot during your Banff heli wedding.

After the ceremony, Martha guided us on a hike down alpine meadows, where bighorn sheep and chubby marmots crossed our path. After popping champagne to celebrate, we flew back to Canmore for part 2 of their epic wedding day near Canmore.

Camping Wedding Reception

Rachel and Brad rented out the Exshaw community campground for their reception party. Although their guest list was smaller than planned, this venue was still 100%-corona proof because everything was outdoors! If you’re planning a big wedding but not sure what gathering restrictions may look like, bookmark this page as a camping wedding venue alternative! Canmore is only a 15-minute drive away for guests that may not want to camp.

Brad and Rachel had their first dance under a string of Edison bulbs, ordered Red Rock Pizza for their reception dinner (a Canmore staple 👌), and laughed the night away with family and dogs abound. The perfect blend between tradition and the great outdoors for their Banff helicopter wedding.
