The Love Story Behind their Hiking Wedding

She’s from Australia, and he’s from the USA. They travelled the world together and found themselves in Vancouver, British Columbia. They weren’t able to have their destination wedding in Hawaii as planned, so instead Emily and Jake decided to have a hiking wedding on a mountaintop in the Canadian Rockies. Even though it wasn’t tropical, they had never explored the rocky mountains yet and it would still be a new travel destination for them!

What Weddings Are Really About

“We thought we had missed out on a lot when we cancelled our Hawaii wedding, but we feel like we gained so much more.”
These words Jake and Emily said to us after their hiking wedding resonate so deeply. Countless couples (including Liam and I) had to cancel their original wedding plans in 2020 because of COVID and it really is a heartbreaking feeling. Marriage isn’t about the venue, though, or the guest list or the table decor. It’s saying “Yes” to a lifetime of adventure with your best friend.

Their Hiking Wedding Day

With a lifetime of adventures in mind, these two decided to do just that for their hiking wedding! Jake and Emily hiked by headlamp before dawn, exchanged vows on a mountain pass in Kananaskis Country, shared a picnic breakfast, and traversed blooming valleys and babbling creeks. They finished by tying the knot with their wedding officiant Cole Hofstra in Canmore and celebrated their first dance in the forest.

Despite their hiking wedding looking different than their original plan, Emily and Jake were able to celebrate an adventure of a lifetime to start what will truly be a lifetime of adventures.
